Most people don’t know exactly what’s wrong — they just know something changed. If any of this sounds familiar, it’s worth having us look.
Pop-ups and ads everywhere — ads on the desktop, ads over websites that never had them, new tabs opening on their own.
A fake warning telling you to call a number — “your computer is infected, call Microsoft support now.” That screen is the scam. Don’t call it, and don’t let anyone remote in.
Your browser changed by itself — new home page, a search engine you didn’t pick, toolbars and extensions you never installed.
Everything got slow — the fan runs constantly, programs take forever, and the machine is hot even when you’re not doing much.
Your antivirus is off and won’t turn back on — some infections disable protection so they can stay.
Files are locked or renamed, with a ransom note — stop using the computer and call us before anything else. Acting early protects what’s recoverable.
What we clean off
Adware & Pop-Ups
The most common one we see. Bundled junk that rides along with a free download and fills the screen with ads.
Browser Hijackers
Home page and search engine changed without permission, plus extensions that track and redirect you.
Scareware & Tech-Support Scams
Fake “virus found” screens designed to get you to call and hand over money or remote access.
Spyware & Keyloggers
Quietly records what you type and where you go. We remove it and help you secure the accounts that matter.
Trojans & Rootkits
Hidden deep in the system where a normal antivirus scan misses them. This is where bench tools matter.
Ransomware
Files encrypted and held hostage. We assess what’s recoverable and rebuild the machine clean and safe.
We clean it — we don’t just wipe it
A lot of shops solve a virus the fast way: erase the drive, reinstall Windows, hand it back. That works — and it also takes your photos, documents, and programs with it.
We start by protecting your data. Before we clean anything, we make sure what matters to you is safe.
We remove the infection at the system level. Offline scanning, startup entries, scheduled tasks, browser extensions, and the leftovers that let junk reinstall itself the moment you reboot.
We fix what the infection broke. Missing icons, network settings, disabled Windows Update, and antivirus that was switched off.
A reinstall is the last resort, not the first move. If a machine is too far gone we’ll tell you honestly — and we’ll get your files off it first.
Scammed over the phone? Someone remoted into your computer?
This is one of the most common calls we get, and there is nothing embarrassing about it — these people are convincing, and they target good, careful folks every day.
How it usually happens. Someone calls, or a pop-up gives you a number to call. They say they’re from Microsoft, Apple, your bank, Amazon, or a “refund department” for antivirus you supposedly bought. They tell you your computer is sending out errors or that you’re owed money back.
Then they ask you to install something. Usually a remote-access program — AnyDesk, TeamViewer, UltraViewer, LogMeIn, Splashtop, ScreenConnect, or something they call a “support tool.” The moment it’s installed and you give them the code, they can see your screen, move your mouse, open your files, and reach anything you’re signed in to.
What they’re after. Online banking, a fake “refund” where they pretend to send too much and ask you to repay the difference, gift cards, or a payment by wire or crypto. Some quietly leave a way back in so they can return later.
What to do right now
1. Disconnect the computer from the internet. Unplug the network cable or turn off Wi-Fi. That ends their access immediately.
2. Don’t call them back and don’t let them reconnect. If they call again, hang up. They will often try, sometimes pretending to be someone helping you recover.
3. From a different device — a phone or another computer — change the passwords for your email first, then banking and anything with a card saved.
4. Call your bank if you shared account details, made a payment, or let them onto a banking site. They deal with this constantly and can watch or stop transactions.
5. Keep the computer off until it’s checked — and don’t use it for anything sensitive in the meantime.
6. Call or text us. Tell us what happened in plain words. You can also report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
What we do when we get it
We remove the remote-access software they had you install, and anything else that came with it. We check the places someone would use to get back in — startup entries, scheduled tasks, services, new user accounts, and remote-access settings that were switched on. We look for keyloggers and password stealers, check whether network settings like DNS or proxy were changed, and turn protection back on where it was disabled. Then we walk you through which accounts to secure and in what order.
We’ll be straight with you about the limits, too: we can tell you what was installed and what we find on the machine, but no one can give you a complete account of everything a stranger saw while they were connected. That’s exactly why locking things down quickly matters more than guessing.
And so it’s clear: we will never call you out of the blue about your computer, and we will never ask to remote in to give you a quote. We come to you.
How it works
1. Tell us what you’re seeing. Call or text and describe it in plain words — “ads everywhere,” “it says I have a virus,” “someone called me and got into my computer.” That’s enough.
2. We come to you. Home, office, or somewhere convenient across Cabot, Beebe, Ward, Austin, and Searcy. No shop to drive to.
3. Free quote before any work. We tell you what’s wrong and what it costs. You decide.
4. The cleanup happens at our bench. Deep infections need tools that run outside of Windows. That’s the shop, not a kitchen table.
5. We bring it back and set it up. Re-cabled, tested in front of you, with your files where you left them.
6. We show you how it got in. So it doesn’t happen again next month.
Virus Removal FAQ
Will I lose my photos and files?
That’s our first concern, not an afterthought. We protect your data before we start cleaning, and in the vast majority of cases everything comes back exactly where you left it. If a machine is damaged badly enough that a rebuild is the only option, we recover your files first and tell you before we do anything.
Someone called me and got into my computer. What now?
Disconnect it from the internet, don’t let them reconnect, and change your email and banking passwords from a different device. Call your bank if money or account details were involved. Then get in touch with us — we’ll remove what they installed, close the ways back in, and go through which accounts to secure.
Can you tell me if they stole anything?
We can tell you what was installed, what we find on the machine, and where they were likely able to reach. What no honest shop can promise is a complete record of everything a stranger saw while they were connected. That’s why we focus on shutting the door and securing your accounts quickly.
Can’t I just run a free antivirus myself?
Sometimes, and if a free scan fixes it, great. What free tools usually miss is the part that reinstalls the infection at startup — scheduled tasks, services, browser policies, and registry entries. That’s why junk keeps coming back a day later. We remove the whole thing, not just the file the scanner flagged.
A pop-up says my computer is infected and to call a number. Is it real?
No. Microsoft, Apple, and Google never put a phone number on a warning screen. It’s a scam to get you to call and let someone remote into your computer. Don’t call it. If you already did, or you let someone connect, tell us — that changes what we check and which accounts you should secure.
Do you do virus removal for Macs too?
Yes. Macs get adware and browser hijackers as well — it’s less common than on Windows, but we see it, and we clean it the same careful way.
Do you come to Cabot?
Cabot is our primary service area. We also cover Beebe, Ward, Austin, and Searcy, AR. We come to you, pick up the machine, and bring it back when it’s clean.
My computer got slow — is it always a virus?
Not always. A failing hard drive, a full drive, too little memory, or years of startup programs will all slow a computer down. We diagnose before we assume, so you’re not paying to clean an infection that was never there. If it’s a hardware issue, we’ll tell you that instead.
